Thank you so much for chatting with us! How was the last year for you? What were your highlights? The last year was so formative for me. A year ago, I had never released original music, never played my own show, and hardly knew anything. In the last year I got my career off the ground, released six original songs, performed a ton, revitalized my social media, started a merch line, a podcast (Stronger Voices), and altogether figured out a lot about myself. I'm so thankful for the last twelve months.
If you could only perform one of your songs for someone who has never heard of you, what song would that be? I'd choose a newer song I wrote called "Truth Is." It's raw and real, and not what you'd expect based on the title. The main hook line is "When I say I'm doing fine, this time it's not a lie - the truth is I am."
When/where do you do your best writing? I think I've done some of my best writing during quarantine. I'm getting a lot better at writing with the guitar as opposed to the keys, and I think it's made my songwriting stronger and more versatile. I guess the change of pace and location has helped me.
What’s the best advice you have ever gotten from another musician? Focus on writing material that is real and personal, and not on pleasing people. Eventually, people will latch onto it.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? I'm a huge Greek yogurt fan. I have it at least once a day, every day. Without fail. I like to load it up with nuts and berries and all sorts of goodies!
What is your favorite childhood cereal? Count Chocula. Only cereal I ever encountered that was chocolatey and had marshmallows!
Where is your favorite place to eat in your hometown? My hometown is basically farm country, so there aren't too many places to eat around there, but on my birthday we used to drive into the nearest big town and go to Ruby Tuesday for ribs. Good times.
What is one food that most people seem to like, but you cannot stand to eat. Olives. No no no!
What is your favorite dish to cook. I make my own version of scrambled eggs, and I call it "TK Scramble." I start with sauteed veggies like peppers, kale, spinach, onion, and tomatoes, and gradually work in the eggs. And the most important ingredients come last - Frank's RedHot sauce and blue cheese!
Finally, if you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why? Oh man, if I got sponsored by Chobani or Fage (my fave yogurt brands), I'd think I "made it." I eat enormous quantities of their products and love them so much.
