Thirsty Thursday Featuring Olivia Millin

Thank you for chatting with us! Did you always want to be a musician? I always knew I liked to sing and perform as a kid, but I never thought being a musician was an actual goal of mine until after middle school. When I was in elementary school, I actually wanted to be a marine biologist, since I loved sea animals (dolphins in particular, I was a huge fan of Winter the dolphin). But during middle school, the toughest period of my life and when I was heavily bullied, I found my refuge through writing and performing music. It was then that I realized doing music was the thing that made me happiest during the darkest of times.

Is there anyone in your family that made you choose music field? My mom was a piano performance major in college, sang on scholarship with choirs, and even won a radio star contest before switching to psychology and ultimately going into business. I was born with perfect pitch, genetic from my mother's side. Being gifted with this from birth, I didn't want to waste it. My mother was a very musical person growing up, and gave it up for a more stable job, which I can completely understand, but that path wasn't for me. I wanted to use what gifts I was given. My mother told me to do what made me happy in life, and when I told both my parents I wanted to go into music, it was generally well received.

Where do you draw inspiration from when writing? A lot of my works revolve around mistreatment, troubles in life, or bad relationships/overcoming them. Writing about my hardships in life helps me get over them easier and I think are very relatable. in terms of my writing style, I don't traditionally start with writing lyrics as most song writers do. For me, I enjoy the musical aspect more than the actual lyricism, so I start with a backing track and then come up with a melody before finding words that fit the syllables.

If you could only perform one song, which one? "Success" would be my choice of song to perform if I only had one choice. It's not only my favorite song, but it's also my most honest and meaningful song. The song itself is actually a prayer. The first line is "This is my formal big ask of God." "Success" is the song form of my deepest desire.

Did you have a musical mentor? My musical mentor was my theatre director in high school, with whom I was and am still very close. She very much encouraged me to follow my dreams, and reminded me that I was good enough when I was I felt my worst. She taught me some voice skills and provided really good acting coaching during high school. After I graduated and started college, her asking me to sing at her wedding was a real honor.

Favorite Breakfast? My favorite breakfast since I was little has to be Nutella crepes. My

mom would sometimes surprise me with them growing up, and that breakfast would've been an amazing start to the day. I love sugar, I have a major sweet tooth. If i couldn't have Nutellla crepes for breakfast, I would eat something else sugary.

Favorite Cereal? Speaking of sugary breakfasts, my favorite childhood cereal was, no

doubt, Krave. In case anyone is unfamiliar with it, Krave is like a graham cracker cereal, but each little graham cracker is filled with chocolate. When it's put in milk, it makes it even better.

Favorite Fast Food Chain? Chick Fil A, without a doubt. The chicken tastes more real than other fast food chains, plus, much more tasty. My favorite thing to eat there would be the Chick Fil A sandwich. The best part about that menu item is that they butter the buns, and one of my favorite salty tastes is butter. When I was little, I used to eat butter straight out of the container, until my mom noticed and took it away, telling me that high cholesterol runs in the family, and that it's just gross to eat butter on its own. Now that I'm older, I think she was right.

What's on your pizza? Folded? Ranch? My favorite pizza is mushroom pizza. Just tomato sauce, cheese, and mushrooms. Folding the pizza seems counter productive in my opinion,

since it seems like you'd get less of the flavor since most of your mouth is just touching the bottom of the pizza. Ranch on pizza? No. Just No. It doesn't belong. In my opinion, it's worse than pineapple. Then again, I don't like ranch in general, so I suppose it is up to personal taste.

If you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why? Bai Water- It's my go-to drink for its flavors, low calorie, and convenience of hydration- especially in the recording studio. It's also a healthy alternative to sodas, or other flavored waters that add tons of chemicals or additives.
