Thank you so much for talking with us! Is there any news for the forthcoming album? Absolutely! I am working on my NEWEST album now. To be recorded next month in San Francisco! I am so close to announcing this on social media, stay tuned!
Where did you grow up and how has that influenced your style of music? I grew up in Houston, TX which has arguably one of the most solid southern rap scenes. My taste in music and playing style is very influenced by H-Town legends such as DJ Screw, Fat Pat, Pimp C, Big Moe, and Z-Ro.
Is there anyone in your family that you can credit as being instrumental in your decision to go into the music field? My grandmother, Sally Charles, was so gifted on the piano and very talented as a songwriter. She actually passed away recently, and I was given her box of songwriting materials. I was also given her keyboard.
Aside from singing do you play any instruments? Yes! Guitar (acoustic, electric), ukulele, piano, slight drums, and I have some production skills.
Where do you draw inspiration from when writing? I draw inspiration from the day to day waves I am going through. I feel like I waft through versions of realities that could exist, and I have the option to pick one and watch it unravel. That is like writing a song for me. I skim my life for what is happening and look for the strong patterns.
Do you have any pre-show rituals? My pre-show mantra, because it could help you one day: “...I’m cool. I’m calm. I’m collected. I’m a professional. I do this all the time. This is what I do! This what I was made to do! This is me... I’m cool. I’m calm. I’m collected. I do this all the time...” and so on...
How do you drink your coffee? I love all kinds of coffee. At AA meetings, I like black coffee that’s too hot. Anywhere else, an iced latte of some sort with oat milk. That’s my new fave. Wintertime, make it a hot latte.
Where is your favorite place to eat in your hometown? La Griglia.
Most memorable meal while touring. Where were you and what did it involve? The salad I ate in my car in Tucson, AZ earlier this year. It was the last leg of my solo Arizona mini-tour, and I had driven a series of 6 hour days and a few 3 hour days. So, I get into Tucson early for my show, I grab to-go dinner, and just like close my eyes in my car. Someone walked up to ask me if I was okay, so I said, “Don’t worry, I’m just a musician!” I’m sure that cleared everything up.
What's your favorite fast food chain? Whataburger.
Finally, if you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why? Celsius Energy Drinks, I am actually already sponsored by them! I like the sparkling flavors. Literally any of them. I am trying Grapefruit this month. Food wise, I am thinking Lärabar. I like the lemon flavor. More to be discovered…
