Thank you for talking with us! What's the story behind your album's title? The song "Fugitive Heart" is track number three on our latest release, and its title seemed to best represent the theme of the other songs on the album. This collection of songs thematically explores the uncertainties of separation, both physical and emotional - a concept which listeners can surely relate to during the pandemic of 2020. Even the "Fugitive Heart" album cover, depicting two people on opposite ends of a park bench, seems especially poignant today.
Is there one song in particular you're most excited about people hearing? "Your True You," just recently reached #1 on an iTunes Country sales chart overseas, and is a song that really seems to be connecting with listeners. But many different songs on "Fugitive Heart" are being mentioned as audience favorites, and that is truly gratifying!
How was it filming the video for "Lonesome No More?" Released this summer in the midst of the pandemic, the video for "Lonesome No More" was a very emotional undertaking. It portrays the separation between a mother and daughter brought upon by the nationwide lockdown, and makes the recurring lyric "Lonesome no more, maybe someday" seem especially timely and poignant. Filmed in Laura Lynn Danley's own backyard in Little Rock, the video features her real life mother Beverly, who Laura had just moved to Arkansas from Arizona after years of being apart.
You've met a lot of people and musicians during your career. Who has made the biggest impact on you and why? Anthony Crawford, the producer of our first two albums, is a worldwide veteran of the industry, having toured with such icons as Neil Young, Steve Winwood, and Dwight Yoakam. The insight, guidance, enthusiasm, and musicianship he's provided in shaping our sound has been invaluable.
What do you hope people take away from your songs? For listeners to be able to relate personally to the stories told in a Ten Penny Gypsy song - that no matter what situations they are experiencing in life, they feel they are not alone.
Where is your favorite place to eat in your hometown? Heights Tamale and Taco, Little Rock, AR
Most memorable meal while touring. Where were you and what did it involve? An undisclosed seafood restaurant on Gulf Shores, AL. We were in town to perform at the National Shrimp Festival, when Laura became very ill immediately after eating her meal. It was ugly, and it was touch and go, but she managed to power through our show the next day.
If you could share a meal with any four individuals, living or dead, who would they be? We'd like to host a dinner party and invite Jackson Browne, John Hiatt, Emmylou Harris, and Amy Grant. After the meal, we would discuss songwriting in depth.
If I was a bartender, what would you order? Old Fashioned with Basil Hayden's Bourbon. Best one to date: Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado, CA
If you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why? HelloFresh - America's most popular meal kit delivery. We love cooking together, but hate the hassles of shopping. HelloFresh has the freshest ingredients, great recipes, and, most importantly, easy instructions! We might starve without it. We are hooked!
