"Thirsty Thursday" Featuring Carrie Cunningham

Updated: Nov 7, 2021

Multi-talented singer/songwriter Carrie Cunningham has been a touring artist for two decades and has performed on over 1,000 stages. She has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with over 50 national acts, such as Kacey Musgraves, Charlie Daniels, Jake Owen, Crystal Gayle, Diamond Rio, Collective Soul and more. She has been releasing a new single on the 11th of every month this year, as part of her “Showgirl Series,” and is set to release her upcoming album “Showgirl” in early 2022.

Thank you for chatting with us Carrie! How was the last year for you? What were your highlights? This past year has been a lot of work! Putting out a single every month is fun, but so time consuming. I realized I could have done more, but I’m happy with what I did do. I really enjoyed being able to show different sides of me. I loved the interviews, too!

Looking back, what was the first album or “Vinyl” you bought? My first piece of music I bought was Bruce Springsteen “Born in the USA.” The first Vinyl though wasn’t until 2012 when I bought the Time Jumpers album. You’ve played on a lot of stages with a lot of big artists, is there anyone you been star struck by? Hmmm. That’s a tough one. A lot of times I don’t remember who I opened up for until I hear their music and I’m like “Oh yeah! I opened up for them!” I remember who I wasn’t a fan of after meeting them. But, I think Crystal Gayle is probably the most memorable. She was so nice and such a legend! After she and I finished talking, I felt like we could have met for breakfast the next day. She is that cool! You recently released your new single, “Road by Road," that you also co-wrote. Tell us about the writing process and where the idea came from. I had my normal writing sessions with Lucy Leblanc and Jan Edwards late last year. We were talking about dreams, which lead us to talking about spirituality, which lead us to talking about past lives. I am a Christian. I believe in God and Jesus. But, I also know that I don’t limit my belief system to just what is preached. I explore on my own. A few years back, it was very intense for me. My son was 3 and telling me how he drowned when he was 19 while on holiday…Gave me his name and I found his obituary online. I also had a friend who I was able to connect with on a deeper level and saw us in many past lives. So, I took one of my memories with him, one of my memories that my older son was able to recount with me, and a memory that I have had since I was a little girl and put them in this song. It’s super intense. I could probably write a whole album from my past live stories….

What is one thing you can tell us that most people don’t know about you and might surprise us? I can clap with one hand :)

Favorite music to listen to while you cook? Jazz, Motown, or French music is always fun while in the kitchen What is your favorite wine? King Frosch Semi -Dry Dornfelder and also their semi- sweet Riesling What is your favorite sandwich? Bahn mi! Best food that deep fried? Cherry flavored Kool-aid lol. I’m serious! It’s like a cherry donut!

Finally, if you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why?

This may sound funny, but probably "Lily of the Desert" Aloe Vera Juice. I swear by it. It cured my acid reflux back in 2004 and when I found out in 2017 that I was allergic to 48 things, it was the first thing I started drinking, along with a few other things I chose to help heal myself naturally. BTW, I am no longer allergic to anything, including gluten. I'm a holistic nut! lol
