Alexa Kishner recently released her newest song called, “The One.” It’s her hope that the song empowers listeners to find their own happiness in life. We talked with the 20 year old singer/songwriter about what it means to be a role model and how important music is to her. Check it out!

What’s the story behind your newest song called, “The One?” “The One” encompasses the idea that you have the power to control your own life and your own happiness. I hope the song empowers others to boldly and proudly be themselves. It’s easy to fall into a place where we are making decisions based on other people’s happiness, but it’s up to us to decide who we want to be and how we want to live our lives. Your happiness is so important, so keep being yourself and keep pushing towards your goals.

Did you always want to be a musician or was there a specific moment that something happened that made you think "this is what I want to do with my life." If so, what was it? I honestly cannot remember a time in my life where I haven’t wanted to pursue music. Music has always been a huge part of my life and has continued to prove its importance throughout all of life’s triumphs and disappointments.

In those moments where I go back to wondering if I truly want to take on this challenging career, concerts always instill that passion back into my mind. Seeing how beautiful and magical it is to have so many people singing words that you wrote back to you-- there are no words to describe that feeling. Seeing my favorite artists in concert always allows me to have that “this is what I want to do with my life” moment, if I ever do lose that spark. I have grown up with such a great passion for writing and music and I could not imagine doing something else. Ultimately, I want to aid others in understanding that they are never alone and can face any obstacle that may come their way and I hope that my music can do that, even if in a small way.

Is there anyone in your family that you can credit as being instrumental in your decision to go into the music field? My family has always been a huge influence in my life and I am so grateful for the support that they continue to show me every day. The passion for music has always been relevant in my life since a very young age. My grandmother actually started teaching me songs when I was three years old, which I definitely think helped commence my love for music.

What’s your advice for young artists trying establish a name for themselves? Especially young females that may see you as a role model. I always struggle to find the words to describe how grateful I am to be able to make music and put it out for the world to hear. I grew up listening to empowering female artists wishing and hoping that one day I could put out my own music and hear people singing those words back to me. The fact that I have now put out a few songs on iTunes and all streaming platforms, on top of having the opportunity to sing those songs for people who really care about and relate to them, is astounding.

To young females and young artists who are trying to pursue music, know that if you put your heart into this and the passion and drive is there, you will be able to live your dreams and change lives. Having these platforms to reach a great amount of people at one time is so powerful, and you have the opportunity to use this to make a difference and spread kindness in a hectic world. Be true to yourself, follow your dreams and use your voice to make a positive impact on this world. You got this!

Can you remember your first trip to Nashville? Very vividly, actually. I remember being so inspired while walking down Broadway, hearing so many musicians and artists share their words with the public. Everyone just seemed so happy and thankful to be in that place at that moment. I was so inspired by that trip that I immediately picked up my guitar and wrote a song about the feeling of being able to hear so many individuals following their dreams and sharing their stories in such an incredible way. It’s so crazy that I have now performed at a great amount of the venues that I could only dream about playing when I first visited.

Of course we love your style, any favorite shops? Thank you! Tobi.com is my favorite store right now. I don’t think they have an in-person store, but they have an amazing online store and great styles year-round!

Is there anything you wished would come back into fashion? I love wearing sparkly outfits for big occasions. They’re so fun and I’d love for them to be more relevant!

So who has the better food scene New York, Nashville or Los Angeles? I love the food scene in all three cities! Give me a classic Italian restaurant and I’m good. New York will always have my heart, though.

Since you travel a lot, what about airport food? Any must have snacks for travel? Yes! I always make sure to have some water, gum, and a bag of pretzels.

Finally, if you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why? M&Ms. I always have and always will love M&Ms.
