Southwest Value Partners Announces Exciting Upgrades to Historic Union Station

Nashville Yards developer nears completion of first phase of historical restoration and property improvements

Southwest Value Partners, developer of the 18-acre Nashville Yards project, today announced the completion of several upgrades to The Union Station Nashville Yards, part of Autograph Collection Hotels, Marriott International’s collection of independent hotels hand-selected for their inherent craft and distinct perspectives on design and hospitality. Southwest Value Partners also shared plans for future improvements that will re-establish the former train station as one of Nashville’s preeminent social hubs and the foremost gateway to downtown. “The Union Station Nashville Yards, Autograph Collection is a crown jewel of Nashville, widely recognized as one of the most visually stunning structures in our city and a top hotel destination in the county,” said Cary Mack, managing partner of Southwest Value Partners. “When Southwest Value Partners acquired the property last summer, we immediately began taking steps to restore this landmark to its former grandeur.” In recent months, with profound respect for the building’s history, Southwest Value Partners has undertaken several restoration projects to preserve and enhance The Union Station Nashville Yards, including:

  • Carefully cleaning and repairing the historic limestone façade in accordance with National Park Service recommendations to remove decades of grime and buildup;

  • Enhancing the landscaping around the property to better showcase the hotel’s heavy-stone Richardsonian-Romanesque design;

  • Repairing the hotel’s 120-year-old slate roof and copper accents;

  • Restoring the 4-story lobby interior to its original color scheme with enhanced lighting upgrades to properly illuminate the historic space; and

  • Installing new spa-quality bathrooms in every hotel room, each featuring state-of-the-art, walk-in showers. “We’re thinking carefully and creatively about the best way to bring The Union Station Nashville Yards back to life, ensuring we’re doing justice to the hotel’s storied past while also making this property more accessible and enjoyable – both for our community and for travelers,” said Joe Bucher, Southwest Value Partners Director of Strategic Design. “We’ve got a lot of exciting plans just around the corner that will better weave Union Station into the broader Nashville Yards property and bring new activations to Upper Broadway.” The next phase of improvements, slated to be completed in summer 2021, will include the introduction of a new restaurant concept located at the original Broadway entrance to the station that has functioned as a meeting room for decades. The new concept will reopen the building to the street for alfresco dining and libations in a lively atmosphere that blends history with modern accoutrements. Additionally, The Union Station Nashville Yards will soon open its reimagined lobby bar to provide cocktails and light bites to travelers and local residents in one of the city’s grandest spaces. The lobby bar, which has been redesigned to fully immerse guests in the hotel’s historic lobby architecture while they enjoy creative cocktails and small bites, will be on every Nashville tourist’s “Must Visit” list and is certain to be a new favorite spot for locals to see and be seen.
