Fortress made its debut in 2000 and was Sister Hazel's third studio album. "Change Your Mind" and "Champagne High" were both chart-topping singles on the Billboard Music Charts that sent the album to Certified Gold status. Another hit song, "Your Winter," was featured in the box office smash "10 Things I Hate About You." Fortress has been celebrated by both critics and fans over the years making its permanent mark in history.
Guitarist for the band, Ryan Newell, recently spoke with V13 Media about the 20th anniversary of the album stating, “I think it is one of our stronger albums. I think the music and production hold up to today’s standards. We were going through a lot of changes as people and I think that emotion was captured quite successfully. Our fans really connect with Fortress, so I guess we did something right.” During time off the road lead-singer Ken Block spoke with American Songwriter about the band's 27 year history, “It comes down to having a trust with each other, and I think certain things just happen after you’re a band for a lot of years. There’s just something about the mix of our personalities, our ideas about how we want to get where we want to go. It’s something pretty special.” Commemorative merchandise is available for fans to purchase including a limited-edition Fortress hoodie and commemorative men and women's t-shirts. Fans can also drink their "Strange Cup of Tea" from commemorative camping mugs. Bundles range from $44 -$99.
About Sister Hazel:
Originating from Gainesville, FL, Sister Hazel is comprised of five gifted, seasoned musicians whose well-spring of natural talent has been called "one of the Top 100 Most Influential Independent Performers of the last 15 years" by Performing Songwriter Magazine. Song "All for You," topped the adult alternative charts during the summer of 1997 and the success propelled their album to platinum status. Since then, the band has become firmly established not only in rock and alternative music, but now in country with four back-to-back Billboard Top Country Albums Chart entries. They have most recently co-produced a cleverly themed EP compilation series entitled “Elements,” that includes a bonus seventh track that continued throughout the series. Living up to their fan-centered reputation, the band was a pioneer in the themed cruise industry by co-founding "The Rock Boat" and annually hosts events like the “Hazelnut Hang,” and "Camp Hazelnut" that focuses on creating unique experiences and interacting with the fans. Sister Hazel has been equally attentive to connecting with their audience through social media having amassed over a million social followers. In addition to the events and touring, the band also gives back with “Lyrics For Life.” Founded by singer Ken Block, the charity unites musicians and celebrities for concerts and auctions to benefit cancer research and patient-care charities.
