Thank you for talking with us! What first sparked your love of music? Was there a particular song or record you remember? There’s not one song or record in particular that sparked my love of music, but I do remember a lot of Shania Twain, Britney Spears, and Destiny's Child being played in my house as a kid.
I’m sure you won’t mind me saying that your new song set for release on Oct. 18th. that is a duet with Brett Kissel, “As Good As You Look" is just fantastic. Can you give us a little bit of background about song selection and writing? Thank you so much! “As Good As You Look” is a fun upbeat song I wrote with Brent Anderson and Kelley Lovelace about seeing someone who is obviously gorgeous, but wanting to know if they’re as good a lover as they’re looks are. We had so much fun writing this one, and I knew I loved the song but there was something missing. When I first heard Brett’s vocal on the song, I knew that’s what the song needed all along!
You’ve also received some great praise about “Loser” from other outlets. That must feel pretty special? Definitely! “Loser” means a lot to me and was written based off personal experience, which I think is why people are able to relate to it so much. Chances are if I’m feeling a certain way, somebody else is too!
You have opened for some big names like Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, and Rascal Flatts to name a few. Who else would you love to tour with? Did any of them give you any great advice that has stuck with you? It was such an honor opening up for these amazing artists! I did not get to hang with them for too long because they’re all very busy people, but they were all so sweet and humble. I would absolutely love to go on tour with Eric Church one day. He is one of my biggest influences and it would be a dream come true to open for him!
You have traveled a lot of places. What's the most memorable meal you've had while touring. Where were you and what did it involve? I got to eat at a really authentic German restaurant in Myrtle Beach after performing at the Carolina Country Music Festival one year. I got potato pancakes and they were AMAZING. If I’m ever back in Myrtle Beach, I’ll definitely be eating there again.
Is there anywhere you have wanted to travel or a restaurant you have always wanted to dine in that you have not yet? My top three places that I would love to travel to are Italy, Switzerland, and Ireland. I’ve never been out of the country before and would love to explore.
If you designed your own food tour of Nashville, which restaurants/bars would be on your list of places to visit? I’ll just go ahead and say that the top three on any food list I make will be Mexican restaurants. My favorites are Bar Taco, Rosepepper, and Saint Anejo. If you are ever in Nashville and a Mexican food lover like me, then you have to try these spots out.
Southerners know good cookin’. What should every Southern kitchen be stocked with? One of my favorite southern breakfasts is biscuits and gravy, so I’m always stocked with ingredients for that and think any true southern kitchen should be too.
One junk food you know you could never give up? One junk food I could never give up is ice cream. I don’t eat dairy, so I get the dairy free ice cream brands, but I have always been an ice cream lover for as long as I can remember.
What condiment do you always have in your fridge? I always have hot sauce in my fridge. It makes anything healthy and bland taste amazing.
Finally, if you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why? I would love to be sponsored by Beyond Meat. I don’t eat meat and absolutely LOVE they’re products. They are so realistic!
