The DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookie, created by Nashville’s Christie Cookie,
to be the first food baked in space
Christie Cookie will celebrate the upcoming launch of the famous DoubleTree by Hilton chocolate chip cookie into space through a series of local efforts. The DoubleTree Cookie, created in Nashville by Christie Cookie, will become the first food baked in space inside a prototype oven designed to make long-duration space travel more hospitable when it launches this fall from Wallops Island, Virginia to the International Space Station (ISS).
Local activations include:
- Christie Cookie will sell freshly baked DoubleTree Cookies, available at both local Christie Cookie shops. These beloved, chocolate-chip filled treats have been a custom offering since the 1980s.
- A register-to-win contest open to Middle Tennessee residents, which includes the following prizes: free Christie Cookies for a year, a weekend staycation at DoubleTree by Hilton Nashville Downtown, a one-year family membership to Adventure Science Center, and a copy of the DoubleTree by Hilton Mission: Cookie cookbook, featuring recipes from DoubleTree hotels around the world. The local contest will be hosted by The Nashville Mom, and will run October 18-20, 2019; no purchase necessary.
- Commemorative Cookies in Space tins, available for order online.
DoubleTree by Hilton will make aerospace history when a batch of DoubleTree Cookie dough is launched along with the prototype oven in a rocket bound for the International Space Station (ISS) as part of a landmark microgravity experiment. Working in partnership with Zero G Kitchen, which creates appliances for microgravity use in long-duration space flights, and NanoRacks, a leading provider of commercial access to space, Hilton will be the first hospitality company to participate in research aboard the space station. Christie Cookie operates a bakery storefront from its Germantown headquarters, 1205 3rd Ave North, where guests can visit and purchase freshly baked cookies, brownies and muffins, gift tins, coffee and branded merchandise.
