Lena Stone Talks New EP Princess and More!

Is there anyone in your family that you can credit as being instrumental in your decision to go into the music field? I always say that I wouldn’t be able to chase my dreams without my family. My grandma—Mima as I call her—is my favorite person in the world. She is always singing and playing piano and writing songs, and she definitely passed that love of music down to me! My parents are both super musical as well (not professionally) and filled our house with music growing up. And my sisters are my biggest cheerleaders and harshest critics, and I trust their opinions more than almost anyone else’s.

You recently released your new single, "Princess," that you also co-wrote. Tell us about the writing process and where the idea came from. "Princess" is one of my favorite songs I have ever written. The idea came to me when I was re-watching some of the classic Disney princess movies with my sister and realized how outdated those fairytales are! Don’t get me wrong, I love all things pink and sparkly and girly, but I’m also a feminist and don’t believe in waiting for a man to be the hero of every story. So I wanted to write a song that changed up the narrative and let the girls save the day themselves.

Looking back, what was the first album or “Vinyl” you bought? It’s probably a tie between “Baby One More Time” by Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera’s self-titled debut album…can you tell I’m a ‘90s baby?!

If you could only perform one of your songs for someone who has never heard of you, what song would that be? I think my newest release “Princess” really sums up who I am as an artist and what I want to say. It’s spunky and catchy and clever, and most of all it’s confident. My goal with my music has always been to inspire confidence in anyone who hears it, whether that means confidence in yourself, or your choices or your emotions, and I think that song really captures that feeling.

Do you have any pre-show rituals? I always make sure to run through my vocal warm-ups so that I don’t hurt my voice onstage. Then right before I go onstage I take a moment for myself to breathe and focus, and then take a shot of tequila!

Favorite music to listen to while you cook? I love really chill music when I’m cooking, especially classics like James Taylor and Carole King.

What is your favorite wine? Italian reds are my absolute favorite, and in the summer I also love a cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

What is one food that most people seem to like, but you cannot stand to eat. Meat! I’m a lifelong vegetarian.

What’s on your pizza? Do you fold your pizza or eat it straight on? Tons of veggies, olives, mushrooms and lots of cheese! And I always eat it straight on.

Finally, if you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why? This is probably super basic but I’m totally obsessed with La Croix, especially the coconut flavor, and I would LOVE to be sponsored by them!
