Coast Modern is bringing their infectious sun-soaked tunes to 3rd & Lindsley on 4/1 as part of their Haunted House Party tour. The band is running a "Bring-A-Thon," encouraging fans to bring lights, glow sticks, decorations or just plain good vibes to create a fun and unique show in each city. This is sure to be an exciting night! Check out our interview with the band below!
What was a typical dinner or family meal like for you growing up?
There was a good amount of family table time, lotta soups and stews.
Has music always been a big part of your life in the kitchen and family gatherings?
I gotta have tunes on when I’m cooking. I usually put a record on the turntable to kickstart my brain into making breakfast in the morning. But yea, getting the music vibe right when eating with friends and family is essential.
What are some of your favorite foods to cook?
I’m big on freestyling! It’s kind of like how we produce music… just get really good ingredients and think about what else they’d go good with. Lotta squash and greens.
Who is the bigger foodie in the band?
Tough… Luke’s maybe been into it longer but Coleman’s got a rich palate. We both love a good meal and got into slow cooker cooking when we recorded in the woods this winter.
How do you find great meals when you are on the road?
I think we’ve been to more Whole Foods than any other band. The hot bar is where everyone can get what they want and eat healthy. But Steph, our drummer is a master Yelper and will seek out the best restaurants near where we’re playing.
One food everyone tells you to try, but you just can’t get up the nerve.
We’re both pretty adventurous… would definitely try anything. I’m curious about tsukemen. It’s hard because normal ramen is so damn good already.
If you could pick one food to eat every day for the rest of your life, what would that be?
Sushi??? Or like nice a nice mezze plate.
You are getting ready to play in Nashville April 1 at 3rd and Lindsley. What songs are you most excited to play for your Music City fans?
Sometimes we read the “key” of the room and the BPM and make an impromptu song based on that, so I’m curious how Music City will fare. But our song "Guru" is always fun to play and the crowd gets really into it.
Will fans get to hang out with you before or after the show?
Yeah, we always come out after the set and meet folks. It’s why we’re out here. It’s not just to play music at fans, it’s to build a feeling of community and connectedness.
Any place in particular you like to eat, drink, or visit while in town?
We’ve been talking about hot chicken again. We went to Prince’s a bit ago and it ripped us a new one in a good way. We love Barista Parlor for coffee too. Where else should we go??
We love that on this tour, the band is running a "Bring-A-Thon.” What is the dish that you bring to a family or friends gathering?
I usually go for the dessert wave. I make a mean “chopie” (chocolate pie) with super dark chocolate.
Finally, if you could be sponsored by one food/drink brand who would it be and why?
Does Whole Foods count? We’ve been talking about this in the van. Name a city, we’ve probably been to the Whole Foods, even if we haven’t played there. Sponsor us??
