CMA Music Fest 2018: Interview with Keeper Of The Plains

Is this your first CMA Fest? How do you like it so far? Yes, this is my first. It was a humbling experience and truly an eye-opener. I hope it’s a taste of what’s coming in the near future for the band.

Do you plan on catching any shows while here at CMA fest? I wanted to try and catch Jason Aldean, he is one of my favorites as well as Blake Shelton.

Any must visit spots in Nashville or somewhere you haven’t been you can’t wait to go? Well, this is my first time actually hanging out and seeing the sites here. When I have been down in the past it was only for a recording session. I definitely want to stop by Ole Red and Jason Aldean’s new bar.

Did you always want to be a musician or was there a specific moment that something happened that made you think "this is what I want to do with my life." If so, what was it? Yes, I always envisioned myself as a country musician. I think the specific moment was when Keeper Of The Plains was on the same bill as Kellie Pickler and David Nail a few years ago. That's when I made up my mind that this is what I really wanted.

Is there anyone in your family that you can credit as being instrumental in your decision to go into the music field? I have to credit my cousin, Steve Torres. I would watch his band rehearsing — they were a rock band playing all the hits in the 70's. They were really good and sounded like The Eagles to me. It made me want to do the same.

Tell us about, “Keep On Rollin.” Well, where do I start? "Keep on Rollin," was written by Michael Gresham and Troy Johnson. It really fit our lane of country music and the message about the blue collar workers and life’s curveballs really spoke to me. We are currently recording my second album with help from Gary Gannon. He has written many hits for artists like Blake Shelton and many others. So we are really excited to keep on rolling with great new music. All of these writers are amazing people and I’m so lucky to have them in my corner.

Do you have any interesting stories about how fans have been affected by your music? Well, I have received several massages on the Keeper Of The Plains Facebook page that make me so happy. One specific message was from a man that told me he lost his job and as he was leaving he happened to turn on the radio and, “Keep On Rollin,” started to play. He said that the song perfectly described his life in that particular moment. He looked me up and found our Facebook page to thank me for the song. If I can reach one person through my music then I have done what the Lord has put me on this Earth to do.

If you had to give up music – what would you do to be creative? I would probably start promoting other bands, but luckily I don’t have to. Our journey is just getting started!

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have? I would love to be able to help all people in whatever unfortunate situations they may be currently stuck in.

What do you do on a day off, no work allowed? First and foremost, I always spend any days off with my daughter, Selena. They only stay little for a short time and to me it's important to be with her as much as possible.

What is an example of a menu you would prepare if I came over? Well, I'm Hispanic so I would make you the best Mexican food in Texas. I’d whip you up some old recipes from my grandmother's kitchen. You have not had Mexican food until you have had mine! I love to cook.. Can you tell? Haha.

They say Texas does food bigger better than anywhere else, what are your thoughts on that. I would have to agree with that quote. From our concerts, to our food, we do in fact do it bigger. Haha.

You can't forget the Texas barbecue. What sets apart great barbecue from just okay barbecue? Here in Texas we have to have all the sides — pinto beans, pickles, sauce, potato salad etc. And of course the ribs are bigger than anywhere else in the U.S. with a bold flavor taste that just screams Texas.

Any last words for our readers and your fans? How do they connect with you? Check us out Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Please request “Keep on Rollin” on your local radio station. We want everyone to know that we are just regular guys that love a good time. We love hanging out and meeting everyone that we can. I also want to give a special shout out to all our Texas fans and of course, country radio for playing our song! Much love to you all and thank you for all your support.
