Do you have a family tradition you love to do each Christmas?
CJ Lewandowski (mandolin/ vocals) - I like to try to get my 87 year old grandma to drink a beer with me on Christmas… and it usually happens.
What have you asked Santa for this year? A hippopotamus. Also a 1923 Gibson Lloyd Loar signed mandolin.
What was a popular gift that most children wanted when you were growing up? Did you have one? A Stretch Armstrong doll. Yes, I had one. It was a really bad day when it ripped.
Do you have a favorite Christmas Movie? The Santa Clause. Tim Allen is one of my favorite actors. It came out in the prime of my “Christmas Youth." I would watch it with my grandma and aunt every year.
What about a favorite Christmas food? Do you cook a big Christmas dinner? My great-grandma made a really good cheese cake every year. I have the recipe and still make it. I haven’t cooked a big Christmas dinner since moving to Tennessee, but when I was younger, we did. My Dad’s family had eight kids so dinner was always huge.
What is your favorite Christmas song/album? Larry Sparks – "Christmas in the Hills"
Name three things you are thankful for this year? Getting to travel and live out my dream of playing music full time, the guys in the band who have become my family, the friends and fans we’ve made that make this life worthwhile.
What have been the highlights for you from 2018? Signing with Rounder Records, winning the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Emerging Artist of the Year.
Any New Year's resolutions? To keep playing the music we love and bring bluegrass to more people who may never have heard it before.
What is 2019 going to look like for you? 365 days of badass bluegrass with a little downtime sprinkled in between. Also the release of our first Rounder Records project in the spring.
